A Crash Course in Set Theory

چکیده
Definition. A specific set that we often care about is the empty set, ∅ i.e. the set containing no elements. One particular quirk of the empty set is that any statement of the form ∀x ∈ ∅ . . . will always be vacuously true, as it is impossible to disprove (as we disprove ∀ claims by using ∃ quantifiers!) For example, the statement “every element of the empty set is delicious” is true. Dumb, but true! Some other frequently-occurring sets are the open intervals (a, b) = {x | x ∈ R, a < x < b} and closed intervals [a, b] = {x | x ∈ R, a ≤ x ≤ b}.

An extended hesitant group decision-making technique based on the prospect theory for emergency situations
Throughout the present manuscript, we are going to introduce a novel group emergency decision-making technique in which the application of prospect theory explains the psychological behaviour of the decision maker who is affected by the hesitancy and uncertainty of cognition in decision making problems.\Instead of usual aggregation procedure, we implement here a new fusion technique that ...
متن کاملIs P Versus NP Formally Independent?
This is a survey about the title question, written for people who (like the author) see logic as forbidding, esoteric, and remote from their usual concerns. Beginning with a crash course on Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory, it discusses oracle independence; natural proofs; independence results of Razborov, Raz, DeMillo-Lipton, Sazanov, and others; and obstacles to proving P vs. NP independent of str...
متن کاملIC/95/339 hep-th/9511038 New Results in Topological Field Theory and Abelian Gauge Theory
These are the lecture notes of a set of lectures delivered at the 1995 Trieste summer school in June. I review some recent work on duality in four dimensional Maxwell theory on arbitrary four manifolds, as well as a new set of topological invariants known as the Seiberg-Witten invariants. Much of the necessary background material is given, including a crash course in topological field theory, c...
متن کاملPriority Order for Improvement of Intersections using Pedestrian Crash Prediction Model
One of the most important needs of pedestrians is safety at crossing points, especially at intersections. Intersections are important parts of the urban road network because any disruption in them reduces the capacity of the entire network. The main objective of this research is to propose an appropriate method for prioritizing urban intersections with considering the important factors affectin...
متن کاملApplying Data Mining to Assess Crash Risk on Curves
The wide range of contributing factors and circumstances surrounding crashes on road curves suggest that no single intervention can prevent these crashes. This paper presents a novel methodology, based on data mining techniques, to identify contributing factors and the relationship between them. It identifies contributing factors that influence the risk of a crash. Incident records, described u...
